To celebrate the special Juneberry harvest at the park, join us for a festival featuring live music, food and beverages from local vendors highlighting the berry, plant-based craft workshops, and more. And, of course, come to learn about and taste the rare berry for yourself!
Event Details
The Juneberry (known also as the Serviceberry or Saskatoon berry) is a small, purplish-blue fruit native to North America. Technically pome fruits, they are similar to apples and pears, rather than true berries like blueberries. They grow on shrubs or small trees, with species varying in size: for example, Amelanchier canadensis typically forms a multi-stemmed bush around 12 feet tall, while Amelanchier arborea grows as a small tree. The fruit ripens in late spring to early summer, which is how it earned the name "juneberry," and the rare berry is grown right here in Domino Park!
